Caivano: Insects in containers and worms in flour: NAS raids communities for minors

Widespread checks were conducted at Caivano's youth centers. This morning, Carabinieri officers from the Caivano station, along with officers from the Naples Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit and the Municipality's social services, conducted a thorough inspection of five social care facilities managed by the same cooperative.

Two residential communities and three educational communities for minors were targeted. The inspection aimed, among other things, to verify the sanitary conditions and the storage and handling methods of food intended for the young guests.

Irregularities in food management

It was especially during the inspections carried out in two of the five facilities that the most significant critical issues emerged.

According to the military's allegations, irregularities were found in the handling and storage of food. Among the materials seized were containers containing insects and bags of flour containing worms.

The investigations also led to the suspension of a food warehouse, deemed not compliant with the hygiene and health standards required by food safety legislation.

Approximately 500 kilos of products seized

During the inspection, a ban was also imposed on the marketing of approximately 500 kilos of food products, including dried, fresh, frozen, and deep-frozen foods.

According to the Carabinieri, the products were found to lack the necessary documentation to guarantee their traceability and health compliance.

The cooperative's manager has been reported

The cooperative's legal representative, a 37-year-old woman from Maddaloni, was reported for violating food hygiene regulations.

He was also charged with administrative fines totaling 4 thousand euros.

The position of the person responsible and any further responsibilities will now be the subject of the expected investigations.

The judicial authorities have been informed of the incident. The Naples NAS (National Anti-Corruption and Security Service) will continue their investigations, while the Carabinieri of the Caivano station will proceed with the acquisition and verification of documentation relating to the inspected facilities.

Once the checks are complete, the documentation will also be forwarded to the competent administrative authority for any further action.
