Jammer in Secondigliano prison: the experiment worked

In Naples, the first phase of jamming testing has concluded at the Secondigliano prison, where the equipment prevented inmates from using their cell phones illegally.

The result, hailed as a step forward for prison security, was commented on by the USPP, which emphasized how this technology could cut off one of the main avenues of contact between inmates, affiliates, and remaining criminal networks. According to the union, the ability to monitor in-cell communications represents an important security lever, already much sought after over time.

USPP representatives, President Giuseppe Moretti and Regional Secretary Ciro Auricchio, recognize the value of the technological solution, but emphasize that combating illegality in prisons requires a comprehensive approach: adequate tools, investment in facilities, staff training, and a strengthening of the workforce.

Between Secondigliano and Poggioreale, there is a shortage of approximately 200 officers, a situation that amplifies the need for a structural commitment to ensure that technology is supported by effective operational measures.

If the announced results are confirmed, the USPP hopes that Secondigliano will represent a starting point for a national program to gradually implement this technology, rather than a point of arrival. Future evaluations, however, will need to take into account the need for an integrated approach that combines innovation, human resources, and the adaptation of prison facilities.
