Marcianise, Jabil workers picket in the Region against layoffs

Marcianise - A meeting was held at the Campania Region to discuss the dispute involving the 413 workers at the Marcianise plant of the US multinational Jabil; approximately 150 employees held a protest outside.

The meeting held today, attended by the general secretaries and internal company delegates of the metalworkers' unions Fiom-Cgil, Fim-Cisl, Uilm, Failms and Usb, served to bring the dispute to the attention of the Region, as provided for by the collective dismissal procedure initiated by Jabil on 7 January.

After an initial phase of meetings at Confindustria Caserta lasting 45 days, the issue has in fact been passed to the Region, which will have to manage, with the councilor for productive activities Antonio Marchiello present today, the most delicate and complex phase, the one that will lead to the expiry of the procedure scheduled for March 25, the date from which Jabil will be able to start sending the dismissal letters.

And this is provided that in the meantime the US multinational electronics company does not follow up on the announcement made a few days ago at Confindustria, where it expressed its intention to sell the plant with its 413 workers to the new company Tme Assembly Engineering Srl, a company set up by Tme of Portico di Caserta and Invitalia (TME with 55% of the shares, Invitalia with 45%);

an intention that if formalized would lead to the interruption of the collective dismissal process, even if this is a solution that has already been rejected in recent months by the workers of the US company, who have never wanted to get into the merits of the Tme proposal.

In Marchiello, the workers present at the meeting reiterated the need to prepare a plan to relaunch the electronics sector, and to take advantage of the “miserably failed” reindustrialization projects, such as those of Softlab and Orefice, and that they “do not want to suffer the same fate”. There were no representatives of Jabil at today's table, and so the table was adjourned to next week.
