They attempted to rob a car but discovered they were police officers and fled: two Roma arrested

Aversa – They violently rammed a car to steal it, but when the victims identified themselves as police officers, they fled on foot, abandoning their vehicle… with their identification documents inside. A fatal mistake that allowed the Naples Flying Squad to track down the two alleged perpetrators, both living in Roma camps on Naples' outer ring road.

On the morning of June 11, 2026, officers from the Flying Squad and the Dante Police Station executed a precautionary detention order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples North. The two suspects are seriously suspected of attempted aggravated robbery.

The investigation began with two incidents, both on January 23rd, the first along the SS 268 highway and the second on the Naples highway. According to the reconstruction, several men in a Volkswagen Polo first rammed a car near the Sant'Antimo exit, attempting to block its progress. The victim, however, managed to react quickly, preventing the attack.

Shortly afterward, the Polo itself targeted another car. The ramming was extremely violent. The car stopped as a result of the impact. The criminals, armed with a large baseball bat, got out and approached, demanding the vehicle be handed over. What they didn't know, however, was that two State Police officers from the Dante Police Station were on board, who were off duty at the time.

As soon as the victims showed their badges and identified themselves as law enforcement officers, the robbers fled without completing the theft, abandoning their car. Inside the Polo, investigators found the identity documents of the two suspects.

Subsequent investigations, including the acquisition of video surveillance images and the identification of the victims' photographs, consolidated the evidence.

The order executed, as specified in the statement from the Aversa Prosecutor's Office, is a precautionary measure issued during the preliminary investigation. The two recipients are individuals under investigation and presumed innocent until a final sentence is reached.
