A 40-year-old man from Naples dies after crashing his hang-glider in the Frosinone area, hitting high-tension power lines.

Naples – A flight that was supposed to be an afternoon dedicated to his passion for hang gliding turned tragic. A man in his 40s, originally from Naples, lost his life late Friday afternoon in Atina, in the province of Frosinone, after his hang glider crashed into high-voltage power lines in the Le Forme area of ​​Settignano, bordering the Casalvieri district.

The victim was a regular visitor to the Comino Valley, a popular destination among free-flying enthusiasts thanks to its favorable conditions and dedicated facilities.

Takeoff from San Donato Val di Comino

According to an initial reconstruction by the Carabinieri, which is still under investigation, the pilot took off from San Donato Val di Comino. While flying over the valley, he was hit by a sudden deterioration in weather conditions.

A thunderstorm, albeit brief, made maneuvering particularly difficult, causing the hang glider to lose control and crash into high-voltage power lines.

Aircraft and body remained suspended between cables

The alarm was raised immediately. The Carabinieri, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene.

The rescue operations proved extremely complex because both the aircraft and the pilot's body were trapped in power lines. To allow for the safe recovery, it was necessary to temporarily interrupt the power supply to homes and businesses in the area.

Investigations into the causes of the accident

The investigation has now been entrusted to the Carabinieri, who will need to clarify the precise details of the accident and determine the extent to which the sudden weather conditions contributed to the hang glider's loss of control. Currently, the prevailing theory remains that the accident was caused by bad weather that overtook the pilot during the flight.
