"Fewer teams in Serie A and Serie B, more foreign players in youth teams": the Democratic Party's proposal for Italian football.

A comprehensive intervention to address the challenges facing Italian football and revitalize the national sports system. This is the goal of the bill presented to the Senate by the Democratic Party, led by its president, Francesco Boccia, and endorsed by the entire Democratic Party parliamentary coalition.

The proposal stems from the need to distinguish two distinct phenomena that have fueled the debate over the crisis in Italian football in recent years. On the one hand, the national team's struggles, linked, according to its proponents, to a lack of new talent and the criticalities of the youth system; on the other, the loss of competitiveness of Serie A, increasingly less attractive to investors, players, and international markets.

The text therefore aims for a structural reform of the sector, with measures dedicated to developing young players, strengthening youth academies, and supporting women's football. The objectives also include the redevelopment of sports facilities, greater financial sustainability of clubs, and new rules to increase transparency and quality in football governance.

The Democratic Party's proposal therefore aims to build a new model for Italian football, addressing both the sporting and economic difficulties that have diminished the national championship's international standing.
