Maradona Stadium: The city council has given the green light for a major renovation, with the project submitted to UEFA.

Naples – The City Council has approved the final redevelopment project for the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, taking a decisive step toward securing Italy's bid for the 2032 European Football Championship. Upon the proposal of Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Infrastructure Councilor Edoardo Cosenza, the government has given the green light to a massive project—approximately 500 documents—which had already received a favorable opinion from the Conference of Services.

The final mile towards the UEFA deadline

The documentation will now be sent to the FIGC and UEFA by July 31, the deadline set for finalizing the Neapolitan chapter of the Euro 2032 dossier. The schedule was met, and Naples delivered all the required documents on time, maintaining the city's position among the candidates to host the continental tournament.

A project between memory and identity

The restyling, Palazzo San Giacomo explains, will be a profound architectural and engineering project aimed at preserving a strong identity. The underlying theme is the memory of the original "Stadio del Sole" and the history of Napoli Calcio, elements that will guide the facility's transformation without distorting its soul.

Open-door construction site for the championship

One of the project's key constraints is full football usability throughout all phases of construction. The work has been organized to avoid any disruption to competitive activity: the stadium will continue to host Napoli matches without relocations or forced interruptions, an aspect deemed essential from the very beginning of the design process.

Financial coverage and next steps

The project will be funded by the Campania Region with co-financing from the City of Naples, within a framework of resources that allows for the launch of a complex but already fully funded construction project. The technical and financial details of the plan will be presented on Tuesday, August 4th, at 12:15 pm, in the council chamber of Palazzo San Giacomo, in the presence of Mayor Manfredi and Councilor Cosenza. This event promises to reveal how Naples envisions its stadium of the future.
