Castel Volturno – A crackdown on illegal concrete along the Domitian coast. The Campania Regional Council has approved the use of over €292 (€292.192,39 to be precise) by the Municipality of Castel Volturno for the exclusive demolition of illegal buildings and structures.
These are unsafe or dilapidated structures located close to the shoreline and on public maritime property. The resources, already available to the Caserta authority, are derived from tenders released for the purpose.
The measure marks a decisive step forward in environmental legality and comes just 24 hours after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Palazzo Santa Lucia and Legambiente Campania. The agreement, signed aboard the Goletta Verde docked at Borgo Marinari in Naples, establishes a permanent control room to support municipalities in the complex procedures for implementing tree abatement.
An intervention that is more necessary than ever: according to the recent dossier "Abbatti l'abuso" by the same environmentalist association, in Campania between 2004 and 2022 only 13,1% of the demolition orders issued were carried out (3.107 out of over 23).
In addition to the agreement with environmentalists, the release of funds represents the first operational response to the decisions made on July 3rd during the institutional meeting held at the Naples Attorney General's Office. The meeting was attended by the judicial authorities of Naples and Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Caserta Prefecture, law enforcement agencies, and local administrators.
"With the approval of this resolution, we are immediately implementing the commitments made at the meeting promoted by the Prosecutor's Office and the synergy established with Legambiente," said Regional Councilor for Land Management Vincenzo Cuomo. "We are releasing and reallocating available resources to re-allocate them to restore legality. We are acting with determination," Cuomo concluded, "to eliminate degradation and danger on the beaches, restoring decorum and safety for citizens and the environment."
The entire implementation process, including financial reporting for the abatement projects, will be constantly monitored by the Campania Region's Directorate General for Land Management.
