Santa Maria Capua Vetere: Woman brings drugs to husband in prison; arrested during interviews

A new crackdown on drug trafficking inside the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison. Penitentiary Police seized nearly 200 grams of drugs, which were apparently intended for an inmate.

The drugs were hidden in the clothes of the inmate's wife, who had come to the prison for an interview. The woman, already known to law enforcement and with a criminal record, was apprehended thanks to the attention of the officers on duty, who noticed a suspicious bulge on her clothing.

The seizure of hashish and cocaine

The subsequent personal search led to the discovery of four packages containing drugs: three packages with over 160 grams of hashish and one with more than 30 grams of cocaine, for a total quantity of nearly 200 grams.

By order of the judicial authorities, the woman was arrested and taken to prison.

The union's applause and the alarm about the system

Francesco De Curtis, national secretary of CON.SI.PE. (Confederation of Penitentiary Unions), spoke out about the incident, expressing his appreciation for the work of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Penitentiary Police Department.

According to the union representative, the operation confirms the high level of training and investigative skills of prison staff, who work daily to counter the ongoing attempts to smuggle narcotics and cell phones into prisons.

De Curtis, however, also highlighted the critical issues affecting the prison system, emphasizing how officers are forced to operate under chronically understaffed conditions and under intense work-related stress, while continuing to ensure safety and legality in penitentiary institutions.
