"We'll be stopping soon" is the slogan that's plastered across Naples taxis.

Naples – A sign that's both a warning and a sign of surrender. Starting today, it will gradually appear on the rear windows and bodywork of 900 Neapolitan taxis: "This vehicle will soon be discontinued, no support for us." It's the form of protest chosen by a group of taxi drivers against the soaring prices of gasoline and diesel, which are eroding the margins of an essential service left, they say, without any safety net.

The idea born from below

Not a strike called by the unions, but a widespread initiative built driver by driver. "We paid our own fees, one by one, to produce these stickers," explains Guido Savastano, taxi driver and union representative. Printing was entrusted to a local printer, which delivered the first batches today. The goal is to cover the entire fleet in a matter of days, transforming each vehicle into a mobile message aimed at customers and institutions.

The issue of denied support

At the heart of the protest is the unequal treatment of drivers compared to other transport categories. "There are support measures for truck drivers and fishermen," Savastano insists, "but for us, who ensure the mobility of thousands of people every day, there is nothing." Taxi drivers are demanding urgent action, which could take the form of a fuel tax credit, direct grants, or easier access to funds already allocated for the green transition of the public car fleet.

A slow-moving protest

The stickers were removed in the afternoon, and by the evening, the first cars were displaying them on the streets of the city center and suburbs. The decision not to cross their arms but to continue driving, displaying the message, aims to raise awareness among users without paralyzing the city. However, the implicit ultimatum remains: if no response is forthcoming, the taxi ban could become a reality.
