A stolen Fiat 500X has been seized in Portici: it had Polish license plates and a counterfeit chassis.

A Fiat 500X with Polish license plates and an altered identity was seized in Portici by officers of the Road and Environmental Investigation Unit (NISA) of the Naples Metropolitan Police, as part of checks against the circulation of illegal vehicles in the area.

During the inspection, the operators detected anomalies on the chassis stamping and began technical checks on the vehicle's identification data. Further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in 2021 in the province of Latina.

The vehicle was subsequently seized and turned over to the judicial authorities. The driver, a man from the Barra neighborhood of Naples with a criminal record, was charged with money laundering.

According to investigations by the Metropolitan Police, the use of foreign license plates, particularly Polish ones, is often exploited as a way to make checks more difficult and conceal the true origin of stolen vehicles or vehicles with counterfeit identification numbers.

Foreign license plates can, in fact, serve as a shield to evade immediate checks, especially in cases where access to international databases is more complex. This is a phenomenon on which officials are focusing targeted checks using personnel specialized in reading identification codes and reconstructing vehicle history.

NISA continues its work with daily interventions to combat car laundering and the reuse of illegally acquired vehicles. Over the past nine months, checks have resulted in the recovery of over 40 stolen vehicles and the reporting of several individuals involved in the irregularities.
