Cumana closed after earthquake, Bacoli calls for quick reopening

The Cumana line between Bagnoli and Torregaveta remains closed following the damage caused by the July 31 earthquake in the Monte Olibano tunnel, and Bacoli is requesting that service be reinstated as quickly as possible.

"I welcome the institutions' commitment to resolving the Monte Olibano tunnel issue, which should not remain closed for long, as was the case on the previous occasion," said Bacoli Mayor Josi della Ragione, emphasizing the need for rapid action to avoid further inconvenience to residents.

"We hope, however, that the timeframe will be truly short. The situation is unsustainable and will be worse when people return from vacation and schools reopen," added the mayor, highlighting the risk of worsening mobility problems in the Phlegraean Fields area in the coming weeks.

The closure of the rail link was made necessary following technical inspections of the tunnel, damaged by the tremors recorded in the Campi Flegrei area. Campania Regional Vice President Mario Casillo also commented on the issue, assuring that the closure period would not be comparable to the previous lengthy interruption.

The government's goal is therefore to complete the work as quickly as possible, ensuring the safety of the line and minimizing the impact on commuters and residents of the affected municipalities. However, Bacoli remains highly vigilant in anticipation of the resumption of school activities and a return to normality after the summer holidays.
