Farewell to Franco Baresi, thousands gathered in the streets for the captain. And AC Milan fans continue to attack the club's ownership.

Milan came to a halt to pay its last respects to Franco Baresi. Over three thousand people filled the area in front of the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio to pay tribute to AC Milan's legendary captain, on a day marked by emotion, memories, and the chants of the Rossoneri fans.

Former teammates, Italian and international football stars, institutional representatives, and sports executives came to pay their respects to the "Piscinin," a symbol of loyalty and belonging to the Rossoneri. The coffin was accompanied by some of the figures who shared Baresi's most glorious years at AC Milan: Marco Van Basten, Daniele Massaro, Demetrio Albertini, Roberto Donadoni, and Alessandro Costacurta. Also in attendance were Paolo Maldini, among those most applauded by those in attendance, and Roberto Baggio.

A banner dedicated to the AC Milan legend appeared in front of the basilica: "Baresi, immortal legend, inimitable flag that will never stop waving, ciao capitano." A large AC Milan flag was displayed in the square with the words "Baresi 6," a number that has become synonymous with an unrepeatable career.

The ceremony was also attended by Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, Lega Serie A President Ezio Simonelli, Club Italia's new technical director Claudio Ranieri, and numerous representatives of major football clubs, including Inter Milan, Juventus, Roma, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. The FIFA wreath was also laid on behalf of President Gianni Infantino.

During his homily, Monsignor Carlo Faccendini recalled the former defender's human value: "A moment like this, lived well, doesn't erase the pain, which will be felt even more harshly in the coming days, but the pain comforts him. And it gives us certainty. What remains of him remains, the love with which we live."

As the coffin was carried out, AC Milan's Curva Sud cheered the captain with chants of "There's only one captain" and "You'll always be with us, we'll never leave you." A collective embrace that, however, also gave rise to anger among some fans, who protested against president Paolo Scaroni and owner Gerry Cardinale.

On the day dedicated to one of the most beloved figures in AC Milan's history, Rossoneri supporters once again expressed discontent with the team's recent path, which culminated in their exclusion from next season's Champions League and yet another phase of technical and corporate reconstruction.

From Australia, too, came the tribute to new AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim, who is busy preparing for the season. "I've only been here two minutes, and I'm the last person who should be talking about this," said the Portuguese coach, emphasizing the message Baresi left: "He's teaching us that success is a beautiful thing, it's important for our ego, and it's truly important in our lives. But the most important thing, in the end, is character. It's who you are, not what you've achieved."
