Aversa: Illegal sawmill discovered with abandoned waste; seizure ordered.

A property effectively transformed into a sawmill, with logging and felling operations and several alleged environmental violations. This is what the Carabinieri Forestale of the Marcianise Unit found during an inspection on Via Vecchia di Teverola, in Aversa.

Inside the area, the military found numerous piles of wood of various sizes, as well as two stacks of dry branches, which were found to have been cut directly on site.

Hazardous waste also found in the area

During the inspection, numerous items of waste were also found abandoned directly on the ground. These included a spent lead-acid battery, broken wooden pallets, a rusty refrigerator classified as WEEE, various metal materials, part of a dismantled boiler, and packaging contaminated with motor oil.
The military also found eight transparent bags containing sawdust, a material produced by wood processing.

Sawdust disposed of on an agricultural land

The investigation also led to a second site. According to the business manager, large quantities of sawdust were dumped on an agricultural land located in the Teverola area.

The Forestry Carabinieri then went to the indicated area, characterized by the presence of spontaneous vegetation and poplar trees, where they indeed found the presence of a thick layer of sawdust deposited on the ground.

Environmental protests

Following the investigations, the owner of the timber trading company, who was also believed to be the de facto manager of the sawmill, was found guilty of several criminal offences.

Specifically, investigators are challenging the unauthorized storage of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste from the sawmill, the dumping of non-hazardous special waste consisting of sawdust, and the production of atmospheric emissions from wood-cutting operations without the necessary permits.

The seizure of the fund is triggered

In light of the findings, the Carabinieri Forestale proceeded on their own initiative to seize the property on Via Vecchia di Teverola and the materials found inside.
The business owner has been reported at large to the judicial authorities for the alleged crimes. Responsibilities will be determined in the subsequent phases of the proceedings.
