A timely intervention, a violent reaction from the criminals, and an arrest following a scuffle. This is the outcome of a tense night on Via Carlo Vanvitelli in Bacoli, where an off-duty police officer foiled a residential burglary, preventing one of the perpetrators from escaping.
The officer, a member of the Pozzuoli Police Station, was passing along the road when his attention was drawn to two individuals on a scooter. Both with their faces covered, the young men stopped near a small house and then quickly entered the garden. Sensing the two men's intentions, the officer approached them and identified himself.
At that point, the criminals reacted, first pushing the officer in an attempt to escape. The twenty-year-old scooter driver then accelerated at high speed, hitting the officer head-on and knocking him to the ground. Despite the impact and his injuries, the officer got up and engaged in a fight with the young man, managing to subdue him, thanks in part to the timely arrival of a patrol car.
The twenty-year-old was arrested on charges of attempted theft, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official. His accomplice, however, managed to disappear into the darkness; investigations are ongoing to identify him.
