The prison of Benevento
Benevento – The notorious Arpaia criminal is once again a completely free man. Vincenzo D'Onofrio, known in the news as "O' Mangiavatt," 58, a resident of Arpaia and caretaker of the municipal cemetery, is once again a completely free man.
The Surveillance Court ordered the termination of the social danger and the security measure of detention in a workhouse, which is effectively equivalent to a prison regime. The decision was reached after accepting the arguments of defense attorney Vittorio Fucci. D'Onofrio, previously identified by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate as a member of the Pagnozzi clan, is a recurring figure in the Sannio news.
Among the most significant proceedings involving him are the investigation into alleged illegal hiring at the Municipality of Arpaia and a series of extortion cases related to the cemetery, which also involved senior figures in the local administration. In that trial, D'Onofrio was fully acquitted;
the charge of extortion aggravated by mafia methods committed between Airola and other areas of Sannio, in conjunction with Clemente Caliendo of San Martino Valle Caudina. In this case, too, the mafia aggravation was ruled out;
Operation "Ponte di Ferro" in 2018, with which the DDA reconstructed the new balance and conflicts between the Massaro and Pagnozzi clans. Here too, D'Onofrio obtained a full acquittal.
In all these proceedings, Attorney Fucci's defense arguments were accepted. With the latest order from the Surveillance Court, the last restrictive measure was also lifted: he no longer poses a danger to society, and the workhouse no longer burdens him.
