Curti mourns volunteer Vittorio Rauccio, who died in the accident on the Appian Way.

Another victim on the Caserta roads. The Santa Maria Capua Vetere Prosecutor's Office has opened a road homicide investigation following the tragic accident that occurred on the night between Sunday, August 2nd and Monday, August 3rd, along the Appian Way, in the Pignataro Maggiore area, which claimed the life of Vittorio Rauccio, 50, a resident of Curti.

The driver of the small car involved in the collision, a man originally from Giano Vetusto but long-time Pastorano resident, has been registered as a suspect. This is a necessary step that will allow investigators to conduct all the non-repeatable technical investigations required by law.

The impact between the motorcycle and the car was extremely violent. The rider's body was thrown several meters away, landing heavily on the asphalt. There was nothing that could be done for the fifty-year-old.

Rescue efforts were unsuccessful, the Prosecutor's Office seized the car and driving licence.

The alarm was raised immediately after the crash. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and desperately attempted to resuscitate the motorcyclist, but the severe injuries sustained in the crash proved incompatible with life.

The Carabinieri also arrived at the scene of the tragedy, carrying out surveys to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident and secure the area.

The driver stopped immediately after the impact and underwent the required drug and alcohol tests. His car, along with his driver's license, was seized and remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities pending the outcome of the tests and the magistrate's decision.

Investigators are working to reconstruct the dynamics

The investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office will now determine any responsibilities and clarify every phase of the collision. Investigators will have to verify the speed of the vehicles, trajectories, right-of-way, and any other information useful in reconstructing what happened along one of the busiest stretches of the Appian Way.

Registration in the register of suspects is a procedural step required in cases of fatal accidents and will allow the driver of the car to participate, through his or her consultants, in the investigations ordered by the investigators.

Curti mourns Vittorio Rauccio

The news of Vittorio Rauccio's death shocked the community of Curti, where the fifty-year-old was well-known and respected.

For years, he had been involved in community volunteer work and helped organize the traditional patronal festival of San Rocco. Born into a well-known local family, he leaves behind two children. In the last few hours, hundreds of messages of condolence have appeared on social media, a testament to the community's affection for him.

A new tragedy on the Appian Way

The accident rekindles attention to the safety of the Appian Way, a strategic artery but often the scene of serious accidents.
Just two weeks ago, another violent accident along State Road 7 between Capua, Pastorano, and Pignataro Maggiore resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to a third, confirming the dangerous nature of this stretch of road.

This latest fatality fuels the debate over the need for further safety measures on one of the main routes in the province of Caserta, already plagued by numerous fatal accidents in recent years.
