Terni-Rieti accident: Six dead, 58-year-old man in critical condition

Terni – Six people were killed and 45 people were involved in the accident that occurred yesterday afternoon on the Ternana state road 79 on the border between Lazio and Umbria, near Lake Ventina. A 58-year-old man is in critical condition at the Perugia hospital.

The deceased were a married couple, Giampiero Colasanti, 68, from Narni (Terni), and Daniela Bellanca, 59, who were aboard the camper that collided with a bus. The couple, who died at the scene, were returning from a weekend in Abruzzo, in the province of L'Aquila, where they had participated in a biker rally. Federico Romualdi, 49, from Terni, the driver of the shuttle bus that transported tourists to the Marmore Falls, also died.

Among the victims were Stefania Laurenzi, 49, from Rome, who died at the scene, and Paolo Cosci, 51, from Massa, who died in the hospital, along with his partner, Graziella Baldini, also from Massa. The latter were aboard the shuttle bus. Twenty-six people were injured, three of them seriously.

A 58-year-old man, resident in Lazio, was admitted to Perugia hospital in desperate conditions.

The final toll is not yet final. A man is in critical condition at Perugia Hospital. The Perugia Hospital's health management announced that the 58-year-old patient, a resident of Lazio, is currently hospitalized with a guarded prognosis in the intensive care unit, directed by Professor Edoardo De Robertis. The patient suffered a severe head injury. His clinical condition remains critical: he is alive, on mechanical ventilation, under sedation, and receiving the specific intensive care treatment required by his clinical condition.

The health authority also announced that it has activated a psychological support service for the patient's family. Two people are currently hospitalized in intensive care in Terni hospital, in stable condition, three are under observation, and four were discharged this morning.

Thirty-four people were treated at hospitals in Terni, Foligno, Spoleto, Perugia, Rieti, and Rome, 19 of whom have already been discharged. Fifteen people remain hospitalized. Immediately after the serious road accident, Prefect Antonietta Orlando convened the Rescue Coordination Center.

The prosecutor's office is investigating to clarify the dynamics of the accident.

The exact circumstances of the crash are still being investigated by the competent authorities. Investigations are underway to determine the causes of this tragic event. The Terni-Rieti road is known for its heavy traffic, and unfortunately, incidents like this are not uncommon.
