Dirty sea in Maiori, with oily substances and foam washing ashore, has raised concerns among swimmers.

Maiori - A broad brownish trail, accompanied by foam and oily slicks rising to the surface of the water, is ruining the summer season in Maiori, one of the pearls of the Amalfi Coast. The presence of greasy substances close to the shoreline has caused significant inconvenience to swimmers and residents, who have been left with sticky residue and unpleasant coatings on their skin immediately after swimming.

The protest quickly escalated online, with photos and videos being sent to Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. The images document an emergency situation that is endangering both the health of visitors and the image of a world-famous stretch of coast.

The MP has submitted a formal request for intervention to the Coast Guard and ARPAC (Campania Regional Agency for Environmental Protection), urging urgent sampling and field inspections. The primary objective is to determine the source of the contamination, suggesting illegal discharges from passing vessels, faults in local sewage treatment plants, or malfunctions in the sewer system.

"It's inconceivable that such incidents should occur in a tourism hotspot like the Amalfi Coast," Borrelli declared, calling for severe penalties for those responsible and constant monitoring of territorial waters to prevent further spills.
