The blocked truck
Pomigliano d'Arco – A morning of pure chaos and near tragedy at the A16 motorway junction. The driver of a heavy semi-trailer veered off the Via Passariello access ramp, suddenly finding himself confronted by a car proceeding normally in its own lane.
In a desperate attempt to avoid a violent head-on collision with a Dacia, the truck driver slammed on the brakes. The sudden maneuver prevented a direct impact between the two vehicles, but the inertia caused the truck to overturn: 18 tons of tomato waste spilled onto the asphalt, almost completely submerging the vehicle underneath, which was literally painted red by the load.
The alarm prompted the immediate closure of the access ramp for safety reasons. Pomigliano d'Arco Municipal Police officers arrived on the scene to conduct investigations, supported by the local Civil Protection agency, which responded with water tankers to clear the roadway and allow for the recovery of the vehicles involved. Traffic remained blocked for several hours.
Subsequent investigations conducted by the "White Helmets" on the driver of the truck revealed an even more serious violation: in addition to the heavy fines for dangerous wrong-way driving, the databases revealed that the semi-trailer was traveling despite already being subject to a tax detention order. The heavy vehicle was immediately placed under administrative detention.
