Fire at the Naples City Council building, entrance door destroyed

It was a night of apprehension in central Naples, where a fire hit the City Council building on Via Verdi, just steps from Palazzo San Giacomo. The blaze broke out during the night, destroying the building's main entrance and causing extensive damage to the foyer.

The alarm triggered the intervention of the firefighters, who managed to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading to the rest of the structure. Law enforcement also arrived on the scene and immediately began an investigation to reconstruct the origin of the blaze.

Fortunately, no injuries or poisoning were reported.

The council chamber was saved, but the entrance areas were damaged.

The Democratic Party group leader in the City Council, Gennaro Acampora, spoke out about the incident, expressing deep concern about what had happened.

The Democratic Party representative recalled how, in the space of a few days, two fires had hit institutional buildings in the city, hoping that the judiciary would quickly ascertain the nature of the episode.

According to Acampora, if the fire were to be determined to be malicious, it would constitute "an absurd and criminal attack on the institutions," targeting symbolic places of the city's democracy.

The councilor also called on all political forces to show unity and solidarity, emphasizing that democratic debate is always legitimate, but can never lead to violence or intimidation against institutions.

Investigations are open on all hypotheses

In the next few hours, the technical surveys carried out by firefighters and investigators will be crucial, as will the analysis of images from video surveillance systems in the area.

Only after the investigations are completed will it be possible to determine whether the fire was caused by an accidental fault or whether it was man-made. Confirming the cause of the blaze would pose a particularly delicate situation, given the symbolic value of the affected building and its close proximity to the previous fire that affected another institutional building in the city.
