The historic pole race in Santa Maria di Castellabate celebrates its 125th edition with the confirmation of champion Francesco Federico, protagonist of a challenge of skill and tradition in front of a large crowd.

Francesco Federico triumphs again in the 125th edition of the Stuzza in Castellabate
The 125th edition of "La Stuzza," the famous Palio of Santa Maria di Castellabate, confirmed the success of Francesco Federico, who once again took first place in the traditional marine competition. Held on the eve of Ferragosto (August 15th) on the cliffs of Lungomare Perrotti, the event attracted numerous spectators eager to witness the test of balance and skill on the tilted wooden pole, made slippery by animal fat, as he attempted to reach the flags placed at its end by the sea.
Rounding out the podium were Antonio Salzano, who took both second and third place, while the 24 participants also included four new competitors, including Antonio Paolillo and Andrea Di Matteo.
Among the veterans, Domenico Di Sessa stands out, competing for his 45th time. The competition represents a moment of great cultural significance, having been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Campania Region.
Organized by the Cilentani DOC Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellabate, the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, and the Polisportiva Santa Maria Cilento, the event was dedicated to the memory of Giancarlo Fragano, who recently passed away. The winners received ceramic prizes produced by Oltremare, a symbol of local craftsmanship.
"La Stuzza" thus continues to renew Castellabate's maritime tradition, combining competitive spirit and a sense of community in an event that engages residents and tourists, celebrating the area's culture and history with enthusiasm and participation.
