Heavy vehicles banned from the port of Pozzuoli: warning issued to the Prefect, supplies to the islands at risk.

Pozzuoli – A new dispute has arisen over maritime connections in the Gulf of Naples, with the threat of a blockade of goods to the islands. The New Atec trade association, which represents island truckers, has served a formal warning to the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, and, for information, to the Mayor of Pozzuoli, demanding the immediate withdrawal or reversal of the order banning heavy vehicles from accessing the Phlegraean Port. Along with the legal action, the trade association has declared a state of industrial action.

The traffic issue and the case of exemptions

The restrictive measure stems from the impassability of the access roads to the Pozzuoli port, which are closed for safety reasons due to two unsafe buildings. Starting Monday, vehicles weighing more than 3,5 tons and measuring more than eight meters in length will be required to embark exclusively from the Porta di Massa pier in Naples.

According to the companies, the measure risks paralyzing the supply of basic necessities and perishable goods, aggravated by the failure to process ferry reservations already booked until August 31. The operators also contest an alleged unequal treatment: the ordinance allows transit to garbage trucks, vehicles of similar size to those excluded.

The proposed solutions and the ultimatum

To avoid the operational blockade, New Atec has put forward three technical options: allowing passage through Pozzuoli during a time window between 2:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., increasing freight connections from the Naples port by 70%, or opening the Baia dock. The association urges the immediate convocation of a meeting at the Prefecture with maritime authorities, shipowners, and local governments. If no response is received within seventy-two hours, further action will be taken.
