Santa Maria di Castellabate once again hosts "La Stuzza," the historic palio now in its 125th year. The event will take place on August 14th, starting at 4:30 pm, on the cliffs of Lungomare Perrotti, a symbol of local maritime tradition.

The event, organized by the Cilentani DOC Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellabate and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, is supported by the BCC Magna Grecia and attracts residents, tourists, and enthusiasts every year.

At the heart of the palio is the race on a tilted wooden pole, made slippery by animal fat, jutting out into the sea. Participants must maintain their balance and reach three flags positioned along the pole, a challenge that requires skill and courage. The challenge transforms the cliff into a natural arena overlooking the sea, engaging the audience in a unique spectacle. The winners will receive ceramic prizes made by Oltremare.

The 2026 edition will be dedicated to the memory of Giancarlo Fragano, who recently passed away, highlighting the strong human connection that characterizes the event. The organizers emphasize how "La Stuzza" preserves Castellabate's maritime heritage, keeping alive the connection between the community and the sea, an intangible heritage that continues to be passed down from generation to generation and intensely experienced every summer.
