'Private' beaches in Casal Velino Marina: Borrelli (AVS) questions the Municipality and Coast Guard.

A new controversy has erupted over the management of state-owned maritime property along the Campania coast. This time, the center of controversy is Marina di Casal Velino, where the installation of gates, walls, and prohibition signs has raised questions and concerns about the legality of closing certain stretches of beach.

The affair, brought to light by numerous complaints from citizens, has now come under the magnifying glass of the institutions.

The reports: walls and “Private Property” signs

The alarm was raised by photographs taken by residents, which document a portion of the beach, in front of some accommodation facilities, made virtually inaccessible to the public.

A perimeter wall, a fence, and a gate have been erected to protect the area, all accompanied by unmistakable signs: "Private Property," "Private Beach for the Exclusive Use of Guests," and "No Trespassing." This visual and physical invasion has triggered an immediate reaction from those who protect the right to free use of the coastline.

Borrelli's request to the Municipality and the Coast Guard

The report was addressed by the Green-Left Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who promptly announced formal action. To shed light on the matter, the MP submitted a request for access to documents and verification addressed directly to the Municipality of Casal Velino and the local Port Authority.

"We're not making pre-emptive accusations, and it's right to verify the facts thoroughly," Borrelli clarified. "However, it's essential to clarify and avoid any overlap between concession and ownership. The beach is a maritime state property, and the concession deed never transfers ownership."

The three points to clarify and the risk of recovery

The purpose of the application is to verify the legality of the installations under three crucial aspects. First, it is necessary to verify whether the fenced areas actually fall within the maritime state property covered by the concession. The second point concerns the urban planning, landscape, and state property legitimacy of the works carried out (wall, fence, and gate). Finally, it aims to ascertain whether, despite the closures, access to the shoreline is guaranteed within the timeframes established by current legislation.

If the inspections by the relevant authorities confirm the structures are fully legal, the matter will be closed. "If," the MP concluded, "however, any discrepancies, unauthorized works, or management practices incompatible with the public nature of the area were to emerge, we will ask the relevant authorities to intervene to ensure the immediate restoration of legality and the proper condition of the area."
