Major anti-crime operation in Roma camps in Rome, Naples, Bari, and Reggio Calabria: 10 arrests and dozens of expulsions

On the morning of Saturday, August 1, 2026, the police conducted a major control operation in Roma camps located in Rome, Naples, Bari, and Reggio Calabria. The operation involved several locations, including the camps on Via Candoni, Via Salviati, and Via Gordiani in Rome; the city of Casoria in the province of Naples; the Poggiofranco and San Giorgio neighborhoods in Bari; the city of Bitonto; and the San Ferdinando tent city in Reggio Calabria.

During the operations, ten foreign nationals were arrested, while 17 were reported for various crimes, including resisting arrest and assaulting a public official, violating restrictive measures, and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. 1184 individuals were also identified and 194 vehicles were checked. Fourteen undocumented individuals were expelled from the country.

In Rome, nine foreigners were arrested and €3.500 believed to be drug dealing proceeds seized. Three tons of material related to begging were removed, and unused housing structures were demolished to prevent further illegal occupation.

In Reggio Calabria, at the San Ferdinando tent city, law enforcement conducted a complete cleanup of the area, demolishing structures and seizing numerous bladed weapons. 458 individuals were identified, including 165 non-EU citizens, and 12 undocumented foreign citizens were expelled. Authorities placed the non-EU citizens in dedicated accommodations to ensure safety and legality.

In Casoria, in the province of Naples, a Serbian citizen wanted since 2017 for aggravated theft was arrested. Furthermore, 16 individuals were charged with aggravated electricity theft with the assistance of Enel employees. In Bari and Bitonto, searches and checks were conducted on 75 foreigners, 27 of whom had criminal records.

The operation was carried out with the contribution of various police forces, firefighters, civil protection agencies, healthcare workers, and associations such as the Italian Red Cross, confirming a coordinated commitment to fighting crime and restoring public order in sensitive areas.
