Naples: Driver fails to stop at checkpoint and runs over local police officer

He ignored the Local Police checkpoint and attempted to flee, crossing some of the busiest streets in central Naples. It happened during a patrol organized by a Municipal Police patrol.

The motorcyclist, instead of stopping, continued along Via Toledo, then turned onto Via Diaz, even going the wrong way in an attempt to avoid being stopped.

The second checkpoint and the impact

The escape ended when the motorcyclist encountered a second Local Police patrol. Trying to continue his escape, he struck one of the officers, striking him in the arm.

The police officer was injured and reportedly suffered injuries that will heal within ten days. The motorcyclist also fell to the ground after the impact.

The officers then stopped him and accompanied him to the Municipal Police offices.

the trial with direct procedure and the conviction

After the investigations, the Public Prosecutor on duty ordered a summary trial. The proceedings concluded with a one-year suspended prison sentence.

Manfredi's solidarity

The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the city administration intervened in the case, expressing solidarity and sympathy for the officer who was injured during the intervention.

The mayor wished the police officer a speedy recovery and thanked "the women and men of the Corps" for their daily work ensuring the safety of citizens.
