Controversy erupted in Naples's Municipality VI following the appointment of Claudio de Magistris as councilor, a decision that sparked a backlash from the Five Star Movement, which opposed the appointment and removal of one of their representatives.

Naples, tensions in the VI Municipality: de Magistris' brother appointed councilor, M5S dissociates itself.
Naples – The VI Municipality of Naples, which includes the eastern neighborhoods of San Giovanni a Teduccio, Barra, and Ponticelli, is at the center of a heated political controversy.
President Sandro Fucito has appointed Claudio de Magistris, brother of former mayor Luigi de Magistris, as the new councilor with responsibilities for sports promotion, sports facilities, and cultural activities. This appointment led to the removal of the previous councilor, a member of the Five Star Movement.
Claudio de Magistris welcomed the appointment, emphasizing his willingness to actively contribute to the city's growth in sectors he has always passionately supported. Sandro Fucito, former City Council President and Councilor during Luigi de Magistris's terms, as well as coordinator of the Italian Left in Naples, is at the center of political speculation: many see his decision as a potential departure from the center-left and Five Star Movement coalition currently governing the city, and as support for the former prosecutor's future candidacy.
The Five Star Movement reacted harshly. Gilda Sportiello, MP and city coordinator of the Five Star Movement, along with Ciro Borriello, group leader in the city council, and the Five Star Movement council group in the VI Municipality, expressed their opposition to Fucito's decision, calling it a violation of the electoral mandate entrusted to the coalition supporting Mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
They also declared that Fucito no longer enjoys their trust, rejecting the political maneuvers that, in their opinion, preempt an electoral campaign that the Movement does not support.
The incident highlights internal tensions within the city's majority and opens up new scenarios ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, with the Five Star Movement distancing itself from a decision it deems instrumental and damaging to the coalition's cohesion.
