New yellow alert in Campania: risk of sudden thunderstorms and hail

NAPLES – The wave of atmospheric instability continues across Campania. The regional Civil Protection Department has issued a new "Yellow" level weather alert, valid for all of today, Tuesday, August 4th, from 13:00 PM to 21:00 PM.

Despite the short duration of the storm window, the Functional Center reports a severely disturbed and rapidly evolving weather pattern. Showers and thunderstorms are expected, which, while limited to local areas, could prove severe. Associated risks include sudden hailstorms, intense electrical discharges, and violent gusts of wind, capable of damaging roofs, gazebos, and temporary structures.

From a hydrogeological perspective, experts warn of potential flooding, surface water runoff along roads, rising river and stream levels, as well as the risk of landslides and falling rocks in the most vulnerable areas of the area.

The Unified Operations Room (SORU) has already forwarded the alert to all municipalities in the region. Local governments have been asked to activate their respective Civil Protection plans, with particular attention to monitoring public green spaces and ensuring the integrity of structures exposed to wind stress.
