Pozzuoli, the mayor: "Over a thousand displaced people, buildings and schools at risk. Promises are no longer enough."

Pozzuoli — "The situation in Pozzuoli is extremely serious. Today, we have over a thousand residents displaced from their homes, hundreds of families forced to start over from scratch overnight." This is the warning issued by Pozzuoli's mayor, Luigi Manzoni, in a lengthy message shared on social media, portraying a city under pressure from the ongoing bradyseismic crisis in the Campi Flegrei.

h3Emergency numbers: 66 buildings, 33 families, 1095 people assisted

According to data provided by the mayor, 66 buildings have been affected by eviction orders, warnings, or other measures. 333 households have already received such orders, for a total of 1.095 people receiving assistance.

Of these, 74 are hosted in hotel facilities, while the requests for Contribution for Independent Accommodation (CAS) concern 508 practices, relating to 1.384 people.

Added to this picture are four damaged schools—Marconi, Quasimodo, Pergolesi, and Borsellino—requiring urgent inspections and interventions to ensure the safety of students, families, and school staff. Furthermore, the city must contend with a road network marked by significant problems, an aqueduct severely strained by numerous leaks caused by the seismic events, and a number of public buildings (including churches) with conditions requiring immediate responses.

h3Ingv: "Bradyseismic phenomenon underway, further tremors possible"

"Making this scenario even more worrying is a fact we cannot ignore: INGV experts continue to explain that the bradyseismic phenomenon is ongoing and that further seismic events are possible," Manzoni writes. "This means we must prepare to face a situation that could continue over time and, for this very reason, requires extraordinary, rather than routine, interventions."

The mayor acknowledges the willingness shown thus far by the Government, the Campania Region, the Prefecture, the national and regional Civil Protection agencies, and all the agencies involved: "Institutional collaboration has been important and continues to be so. But today, willingness is no longer enough. What's needed now is rapid decisions, extraordinary resources, and expedited procedures. We need timeframes compatible with an emergency that cannot wait."

Manzoni once again calls for the concrete activation of the reception hubs planned for bradyseism-related emergencies, the acceleration of safety measures on the slopes and most exposed areas, and the completion of all the works envisaged in the Extraordinary Plan for the Phlegraean Fields: "Too much of what was planned is still waiting to be completed, while the emergency continues to outpace the bureaucracy."

"We need to speed up inspections, quickly secure funding for displaced families, support businesses that are paying a very high price, and fund the necessary interventions to truly secure our region," the mayor urges.

The Municipality of Pozzuoli, Manzoni assures, "will continue to do everything within its power." He thanks the Civil Protection Department, Municipal Police, Fire Brigade, Law Enforcement, municipal staff, Local Health Authority (ASL), volunteers, and all the operational structures involved in the emergency, "as well as the associations, businesses, merchants, and the many citizens who are demonstrating, once again, the great heart of our community."

A clear conclusion: "The strength and sense of responsibility demonstrated by our citizens deserve equally strong responses from the State. This emergency requires an immediate change of pace. It's no longer the time for promises. It's time for decisions. Because behind every number are people, families, and an entire community that needs certainty. And Pozzuoli can wait no longer."
