Sigfrido Ranucci and Valter Lavitola
Rome – "Valter Lavitola has admitted to instigating the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci, confirming the entire prosecution's case." This was stated by Sergio Cola, the defense attorney for Valter Lavitola, who has been detained since last Monday in Rebibbia prison on charges of instigating the attack on the Report host, which occurred in October 2025 outside his home in Campo Ascolano, in the municipality of Pomezia in the province of Rome.
The preliminary interrogation of the fixer, uncovered by the Rome Prosecutor's Office, lasted five hours. However, Lavitola was keen to clarify in his confession to Rome investigating judge Iole Moricca that the motive for the bombing was not the political one feared by investigators, but rather that it was done to "protect Ranucci's safety, who was the target of several dangerous attempted attacks, especially since Ranucci had no protection at the time; he only had two bodyguards."
The suspect's lawyer reveals the details of the interrogation, which began around 12 noon today and concluded this afternoon.
Lavitola did not act with a political motive, the lawyer explains, "even if in fact the attack, not by Lavitola's will, increased Ranucci's popularity.
He confirmed the prosecution's hypothesis, namely that he was the instigator of the attack, and also explained the reasons why he was driven to carry out this undoubtedly criminal act. He did it for Ranucci's own good, because Ranucci was the target of attacks (threats), and I can't say who the source was. Therefore, his action significantly strengthened his protection. In fact, as you well know, the bodyguard went from two men to eight.
After Lavitola's extensive confession, lawyer Sergio Cola filed a motion for house arrest with the prosecutor in charge of the investigation. "I filed a motion to request a less restrictive precautionary measure, such as house arrest, for my client," the lawyer said.
After the prosecutor's opinion, the request will be forwarded to the investigating judge for a final decision. It is possible that the defense will also seek an alternative to prison before the Court of Appeal.
