The Coast Guard is intensifying checks at beach resorts in the Gulf of Policastro, imposing fines for violations of marine safety and environmental regulations, including one seizure in Vibonati.

Mare Sicuro inspections in the Gulf of Policastro: €16 in fines and seizure of illegal dumping.
During Operation Mare Sicuro 2026, the Coast Guard conducted a series of inspections at beach resorts in the Gulf of Policastro, with particular attention to the towns of Sapri and Vibonati. The inspections focused on compliance with bathing safety regulations, the proper use of public maritime property, and the protection of the marine and coastal environment.
The activity resulted in administrative fines totaling approximately €16. Among the irregularities found were failure to respect the five-meter safety zone from the shoreline, essential for the safe passage of swimmers, and the improper positioning of lifeguards, placed on the public beach instead of in authorized areas.
During environmental inspections, an unauthorized discharge attributable to a shipyard was discovered in Vibonati. The discharge was seized, and the person responsible was reported to the judicial authorities in Lagonegro.
The commander of the Palinuro Maritime District Office, Samanta Losito, announced that the checks will continue in the coming weeks, with the aim of ensuring compliance with regulations and safety on the gulf coast.
