Salerno, the Red Brigades' star returns
Salerno – A five-pointed star, symbol of the Red Brigades, reappeared overnight on Via Parisi in Salerno, a few steps from the monument commemorating the victims of the 1982 massacre. The report was made by Senator Antonio Iannone of the Brothers of Italy party, the party's commissioner in Campania, just days before the 44th anniversary of the attack that killed Army Corporal Antonio Palumbo and police officers Antonio Bandiera and Mario De Marco.
"Twice now, following my complaint, graffiti and symbols praising the Red Brigades have been removed from Via Parisi," Iannone explains. "Last night, a five-pointed star reappeared, and it's intolerable that people are so delusional and insulting the memory of the three victims."
August 26th marks the anniversary of the massacre, and, the parliamentarian emphasizes, "we must act immediately to erase this shame." He has therefore asked law enforcement to review surveillance camera footage to identify and bring to justice those responsible for what he calls "a repeated act."
Iannone also points the finger at the silence of a segment of the anti-fascist world: "We await the condemnation of the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) and all those organizations that were outraged by Falvella on July 7th, but remained silent when it came to condemning those who praised the communist terrorism of the Red Brigades."
