Torre del Greco: Public beach illegally booked: seizure triggered

Approximately 1.500 square meters of public beach have been restored to public use in Torre del Greco. This is the result of an intervention by the Port Authority and Coast Guard of the coral city, as part of the "Sea and Lakes Safe 2026" operation, coordinated by the Campania Maritime Directorate.

Yesterday evening, the checks focused on the San Giuseppe alle Paludi area, where officers found numerous beach equipment left unattended on the beach. Umbrellas, loungers, chairs, and tables were being used to preemptively occupy the space and secure a spot for the following day.

A practice that, according to what has been ascertained, is repeated during the summer season despite being expressly prohibited.

Over 200 pieces of equipment removed and seized

During the operation, Coast Guard personnel, with the support of the Carabinieri, the Municipal Police, and the technical staff of the Municipality of Torre del Greco, removed and seized over 200 pieces of beach equipment.

In several cases, it was also necessary to use a grinder, as some of the equipment had been chained together to prevent removal.

Upon completion of the work, the illegally occupied area, covering approximately 1.500 square meters, was cleared and returned to free and public use.

The ban provided for by the municipal regulation

Occupation of the beach by storing equipment during nighttime hours constitutes a violation of the municipal regulations for the management of public maritime property.

The law expressly prohibits leaving umbrellas, deck chairs, tents, and any other beach equipment unattended after sunset and on public beach areas.

This isn't, however, the Coast Guard's first intervention against this type of behavior. About twenty days ago, a similar operation was conducted in the Laghetti area, also in Torre del Greco.

Strengthened controls on maritime state property

The operation is part of a broader surveillance program conducted by the Coast Guard, together with other police forces and local institutions, under the coordination of the competent judicial authority.

The goal is to combat illegal activities on public maritime property and ensure that citizens can freely and fairly enjoy the beaches and sea.
For emergencies at sea, the Blue Number 1530 remains active. The Operations Room of the Torre del Greco Port Authority is also operational 24 hours a day and can be reached at 081 8812200.
