Donnaregina reopens to the city with Metamorfosi – What remains becomes music

Naples – The Donnaregina Complex reopens its doors, uniting Donnaregina Nuova and Donnaregina Vecchia into a single narrative. This transition was marked by the inauguration of "Metamorfosi – Quello che resta diventa musica," the multi-site exhibition born from the national project "Metamorfosi," conceived by the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti. In Naples, the exhibition takes shape in an exhibition curated by Maria Savarese and Marina Gargiulo.

The official ceremony was held at the Complex in the presence of the Archbishop of Naples, Don Mimmo Battaglia; Ninni Cutaia, Councilor for Culture of the Campania Region; Teresa Armato, Councilor for Tourism and Productive Activities of the City of Naples; Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori, President of the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation; Angela Tecce, President of the Donnaregina – MADRE Foundation; and Vincenzo Porzio, Director of the Napoli C'entro Foundation.

This reopening marks a milestone in the "MUDD – Diffused Diocesan Museum," a project by the Church of Naples that restores part of its artistic and religious heritage to the city, entrusting younger generations with roles in reception, management, and storytelling. Since the project's launch in November 2024, 60 young people have been trained, 19 have been hired, and 13 are internships; 180 visitors have been registered (as of July 2026).

The exhibition continues with works displayed throughout the complex and will later expand to other locations. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 18, 2026, the Donnaregina Nuova and Donnaregina Vecchia churches will be open to visitors free of charge, Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by reservation at muddnapoli.it.

The inauguration included, among other things, a performance by the Tornaccantà Orchestra of instruments created in the workshops of the Secondigliano prison and a contribution from the La Sorte Cooperative. The exhibition is part of Project XXI of the Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts, in collaboration with the Fondazione Napoli C'entro ETS, as part of the "MUSEO MADRE" initiative – FSC 2021-2027 Programming of the Campania Region.
