Giugliano, more flames at Taverna del Re: the fire is under control.

Giugliano – A new fire broke out this afternoon inside the Taverna del Re eco-bales storage facility in the municipality of Giugliano in Campania. The blaze, which affected several piles of compacted waste, is now under control thanks to the prompt intervention of emergency responders.

The area affected by the fire is already known to the judicial news, having been placed under preventive seizure by the forestry police of the NIPAAF of Naples.

The firefighting and safety operations are involving a large deployment of the Fire Department: two operational teams are on site, supported by two standard fire trucks, a high-capacity 100-kiloliter fire truck, a ladder truck, and an air truck. The most complex task now involves the cleanup and disposal of burned materials, a necessary operation to prevent any underground fires from reigniting.

The Campania Region Civil Protection Department intervened to support the state teams, providing three trucks for the movement and disposal of waste, along with two special vehicles equipped with mechanical spider arms, essential for opening the smoldering blocks of waste.

The emergency prompted the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Relief Coordination Center (CCS) in the late afternoon to monitor the situation. Logistical issues were also addressed during the meeting: a SAPNA delegate confirmed that checks are underway to identify water supply sources closer to the plant, thus optimizing the refueling times for tankers, which until now have been restricted to collecting water near the former Auchan shopping center.
