Naples, "We demand truth and justice": the mother of the autistic boy beaten at school speaks out.

Naples – He returned home with bruises, scratches on his neck and back, bites, and even a torn shirt. For months, the parents of a 10-year-old boy with an autism spectrum disorder that prevents him from communicating verbally and nonverbally were told by his school that the child was self-inflicting the injuries.

“We demand truth and justice for my son,” says the mother of the autistic child beaten at school.
“I monitored my son with a video recorder sewn into his pants. I went home and connected the recorder to my computer. Everything came out.”

The son's escalating nervousness and aggression, however, prompted his father and mother to seek the truth on their own. The story unfolds in the Scampia neighborhood of Naples, where the parents decided to sew a small tape recorder inside their son's clothes to monitor what was happening in the classroom during class.

The audio test: eight minutes of terror

The mother's testimony to TGR Campania: "Something wasn't right at school. They told me my son was getting these marks on himself. I monitored my son with a video recorder sewn into his pants. When I went to pick him up, he had blood on him. I went home and connected the recorder to the computer. Everything came out. We demand the truth and justice for my son."

The turning point came when the child left school with traces of blood. Listening to the contents of the device connected to the home computer, the family was confronted with eight minutes of dramatic audio. The audio clearly reveals the vehement voice of an adult—attributable to a school support figure—intent to intimidate the child: "I'm going to make you pay for this. Learn to apologize, you have to repeat the word 'sorry.'"

The threats clearly intersperse with the child's screams of terror, supposedly under the care of three teachers and the special education teacher. The audio was immediately the subject of a formal complaint filed with the authorities to determine who was responsible for the abuse.

The third sector's reaction: "We need controls and protection."

Attorney Vincenzo Taralbo, President of the "Gli Amici di Gennaro" Association, a group committed to protecting autistic children and supporting their families, spoke out on the matter. "If the reported facts were to be confirmed," Taralbo stated, "we would be faced with an extremely serious incident that would affect the entire community.

Every child has the right to a safe and inclusive environment, a principle that is even more true for those requiring specialized support. Reaffirming its full confidence in the judiciary's work, the Association called for more effective controls and qualified training for school staff, announcing its intention to join the proceedings as a civil party to protect the child's dignity.
