Naples, ambush on Via Giacomo Savarese: a convicted felon injured

Naples. A gunshot fired overnight, a 29-year-old man injured, and suspicions of a new attack in the heart of the city. Tensions have returned to the area between Porta Nolana, Via Giacomo Savarese, and Piazza Mercato, an area already plagued by past episodes of violence and the fragile balance of local crime.

Carabinieri from the Naples Stella Company's Operational Unit responded during the night to the Pellegrini Hospital, where a 29-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to the police, had been taken.

The man had been hit by a bullet in the left side.

The injured man was taken to hospital for observation: his condition, according to what emerged in the first few hours, is not worrying and his life is not in danger.

The reconstruction is still preliminary and will need to be verified by investigators. According to initial information, the 29-year-old was shot on Via Giacomo Savarese, a street near the Porta Nolana area and not far from Piazza Mercato. The attack was apparently carried out by unknown individuals arriving on a scooter.

A quick raid, carried out in the dark, with a dynamic reminiscent of an ambush: approach, shooting, and immediate escape. But at this time, there is no official confirmation or evidence to define the motive, actual target, or number of people involved.

The police have begun an investigation at the location indicated by the injured man and are searching for useful footage from cameras in the area. They will also be collecting any footage from businesses, homes, and video surveillance systems along escape routes, as well as statements from anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or noticed suspicious scooters.

The goal is to determine whether the injury occurred in a personal context, whether it stemmed from conflicts related to illegal activities, or whether it signals renewed criminal activity in the historic center behind Piazza Mercato. This latter hypothesis remains to be proven but is being evaluated as part of the investigation.
