Naples: Dioxin monitoring begins following the fire on Via Nuova delle Brecce.

In Naples, targeted environmental monitoring for dioxins has been activated following the fire that affected a warehouse on Via Nuova delle Brecce, in the eastern outskirts of the city, last night.

Since this morning, a high-flow sampler has been in operation to measure concentrations of dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls dispersed in the atmosphere. Technicians from the Naples ARPAC department conducted an inspection as part of the operations of the Sociocorsi Coordination Center of the Naples Prefecture.

Upon arrival at the scene, the fire was in an advanced stage of being extinguished, with the Fire Brigade busy clearing away the burnt material.

The warehouse's roof was found to be deformed and partially collapsed; among the materials exposed to combustion, the probable presence of plastic components was reported. Airborne dioxin monitoring has been initiated near the fire site to assess the impact on the surrounding air.
