State Road 7 Quater: 22-year-old Roberto Ancona was hit and killed in front of the cameras.

It was around 6:30 a.m. when the Volkswagen Golf carrying Roberto Ancona, 22, and a 20-year-old friend from Casal di Principe, was involved in an accident. The two young men were returning home after a night of fun together.

For reasons still being investigated by investigators, the car crashed into the guardrail on the stretch of road between Varcaturo and Ischitella, then merged onto the Domiziana. The initial impact, which occurred in front of surveillance cameras in the area, was not particularly violent.

The dynamics and the tragic fatality

Uninjured after the initial impact, Roberto and his friend exited the car to reach safety and warn passing motorists of the danger. While he was on the road, Roberto Ancona was struck head-on by a car approaching at high speed.

The violent impact threw him several meters away, triggering a car-to-car collision involving a total of four cars. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, there was nothing that could be done for the 22-year-old: he died instantly. By pure chance, no other serious injuries were reported.

Investigations and video acquisition

Carabinieri officers from the Giugliano Company responded to the accident scene, conducting the usual investigations and acquiring footage from surveillance cameras in the area. The footage will be crucial in reconstructing the exact circumstances of the accident, determining any liability, verifying the speed of the vehicles involved, and determining whether the driver or other drivers were distracted.

Meanwhile, the driver who struck the young man has undergone routine tests to determine whether he had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Carabinieri have already forwarded an initial report to the magistrate on duty at the Naples North Prosecutor's Office, who will shortly order an autopsy on the body before returning it to the family for the funeral.
