At the end of the meeting held at the Naples Prefecture with the mayors of the Campi Flegrei area, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi outlined the government's course for managing the post-earthquake situation of July 31. The assessment shows approximately 4.000 people forced to leave their homes, but also calls for institutional coordination to work together to streamline bureaucracy and ensure immediate relief.

Direct support and reimbursements up to 30 euros

The primary objective of the steering committee is to expedite the return of families to their homes and avoid clogging the alternative accommodation system. Among the amendments ready for inclusion in the government decree is a lump sum grant of up to €30.000 to repair minor damage.

This measure is designed to provide relief to those who have suffered minor injuries and to complement the provision of the Independent Accommodation Contribution (CAS), the main tool used by thousands of displaced people in the last month.

Reassurances to the committees: "The institutions are there."

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Interior Minister also addressed the citizens' committees demanding immediate responses and a presence on the ground: "We're not at year zero, and the institutional front is not absent. Citizen vigilance is positive and must be maintained, but seeing all levels of government—from mayors to the Campania Region, all the way to the State—sitting at the same table with a shared vision is a strong signal."

Piantedosi acknowledged the gravity of the situation, not hiding behind facile promises: "No one has a magic wand to solve such complex problems in a few days, but everyone is committed to providing relief to people's needs."

The hypothesis of a special law for the Phlegraean Fields

Once the emergency phase is over, the government aims to shift its focus. The idea that emerged at the Neapolitan meeting was to move beyond a purely emergency approach through an ad hoc regulatory instrument. "I believe it is possible, even in the short term, to conceive of a special law capable of permanently managing the specific and unique nature of the Campi Flegrei area," the minister announced.

A preferential and regulatory channel that allows us to coexist with volcanic and seismic phenomena, guaranteeing resources, ongoing interventions, and clear timelines for securing the area.
