Romeo, the 'lovestruck robber': he robs a pharmacy, identifies himself on TikTok, and turns himself in for love.

Naples – A criminal's exit navigated a balance between total recklessness and a sudden, ill-timed, romantic impulse. The trajectory of a 46-year-old Neapolitan man, a familiar face in the criminal records for property and drug crimes, ended within the walls of the Carabinieri barracks after an escape lasting just a few hours.

What condemned him was not only his victim's quick wit, but the indelible mark left by her own skin, which ended up right in social media feeds.

A four hundred euro raid

It all began late yesterday afternoon, shortly after 17:00 PM, in the heart of the Barra neighborhood. The man entered the store wearing a white semi-full-face helmet. It took only a few seconds for the pharmacy to be plunged into panic: the man pulled out a gun—which was later revealed to be a harmless plastic replica, but visually identical to a real weapon—and pointed it at the counter clerk at chest height.

The order is peremptory, shouted in a firm voice to nip any hint of reaction in the bud. Without waiting for the fear-stricken employee to move, the robber climbs over the counter barrier, reaches for the register, and grabs the day's takings: approximately €400 in cash. Then he quickly disappears toward the exit.

The chase and the license plate pinned on the fly

The getaway on a black Honda SH scooter appears to be going according to plan, but the robber hasn't counted on the pharmacist's courage and clear-headedness. After overcoming her initial shock, the woman dashes out of the store and into the street; a lightning-fast move that allows her to pinpoint the license plate's alphanumeric sequence with surgical precision before the scooter disappears into the neighborhood traffic.

When the military personnel from the Operations Center arrive on site for the initial surveys, they already have the first fundamental piece of the investigation in hand.

Traitorous tattoos and the sieve on TikTok

The second coup de grace came from an examination of the high-definition video surveillance systems installed inside and outside the pharmacy. The frames isolated by investigators show a clear sequence, particularly on two bodily details that the helmet failed to conceal: a prominent Chinese script on the left side of the neck and a complex composition of tattoos on the back of the right hand, the very hand used to hold the fake weapon.

Cross-checking the SH's license plate led to the vehicle's owner, a young woman living in the area. The Carabinieri began delving into the vehicle's private life. The breakthrough came when they explored the young woman's TikTok profile: among short videos of everyday life and couple snaps, the 46-year-old's face appeared.

But above all, in close-up, the same ideography appears on the neck and the same drawings on the right hand. A comparison with the photo ID card found in the police databases removes any room for doubt.

The manhunt in the night and the romantic chapter

As a fierce manhunt ensues through the urban grid of Barra and San Giovanni a Teduccio, the officers reach the suspect's partner and take her to the station to determine her whereabouts. It is here that the story takes on an almost surreal tone. The woman's cell phone begins to ring repeatedly. On the other end is the fugitive, panicking not for himself but for the woman's fate, and he keeps calling.

With his smartphone set to speakerphone right in front of the officers, investigators listened live to the man's anxieties. Realizing that his position also threatened legal action against his partner—whose scooter he had stolen without her knowledge—the 46-year-old abandoned his initial plan to reach Naples Central Station to disappear completely. He changed route, boarded a bus, and decided to turn himself in.

The arrest and the prison doors

At dawn, he voluntarily presented himself at the police station. Before the Carabinieri, he made a full confession: he admitted to the robbery, confirmed using the toy gun, which he then threw away along with his helmet, jacket, and glasses during the run, and reiterated that he had done it all alone. "I'm turning myself in out of love, to get my partner out of trouble," he repeated several times in front of the officers.

The 46-year-old was placed under arrest on suspicion of aggravated robbery. The public prosecutor on duty at the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office ordered his immediate transfer to the prison, pending a hearing to validate his arrest by the investigating judge.
