Rome – Sunprime, an independent power producer operating in commercial and industrial photovoltaics, has surpassed 300 connected systems in Italy and installed its first BESS. Between July and August, it connected ten new C&I systems for approximately 11,7 MWp in seven regions, bringing its connected portfolio to 307 systems with 326 MWp.
The 300-plant milestone was reached with the connection of the Alessandria plant. In addition to Piedmont, the ten new plants were built on rooftops, suitable ground areas, and industrial land in Lombardy, Veneto, Lazio, Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, and Campania. As an IPP, Sunprime directly maintains and manages its fleet for their entire useful life. The connections come during a summer of exceptional heat and seasonally peak electricity demand, during which photovoltaic was the most responsive renewable source, while hydroelectric and wind power lagged.
THE FIRST BESS
On the storage front, Sunprime installed its first BESS in San Giorgio Canavese: 10 MW of power and 40 MWh of nominal capacity, which, once operational, will generate revenue from the capacity market and tolling. This is the company's first storage system physically in the field, no longer just in the pipeline. A photovoltaic system with approximately 1,3 MWp was already connected in the same area in June: generation first, storage second.
The installation is the first step in a 1,4 GW construction pipeline, of which 250 MW is already underway. Part of the new capacity comes from the redevelopment of industrial roofs. Before installing the modules, Sunprime removed and disposed of asbestos cement sheets from three roofs, totaling over 305 tons: approximately 60 tons in Frossasco, near Turin, 79 tons in Alessandria, and over 166 tons in the Ferrara area. For Sunprime, this activity is not an afterthought, but an integral part of its business and industrial model.
