The power vacuum after the raids. The arrest of drug lord Cosimo Di Fiore, known as "Cocò," caught by the State Police with three kilograms of cocaine and a large sum of money, perhaps marked a turning point in the criminal dynamics of the area north of Naples.

The fall of the currently imprisoned boss Ferone, combined with the continuous raids that have significantly weakened the historic stronghold of the 167 in Arzano, has created a dangerous power vacuum in the management of the "drug souk" and the extortion racket between Arzano and Casavatore.

The axis with Vanella Grassi

This split opened the door to the expansionist ambitions of criminal organizations. The shadows of members of the 219th district of Melito and, above all, the Vanella Grassi clan of Secondigliano loomed over the drug dealing centers of Arzano.

The Secondigliano gang is said to have forged close ties with the breakaway wing led by Salvatore Romano, known as "Sasy," thus establishing a possible new strategic pact in the area.

The clash with the Monfregolo

The spark of the conflict stemmed from the internal feud within the 167 group: Romano's wing clashed with the opposing faction led by the Monfregolos and Davide Pescatore, known as "Pal' 'e fierr." The dispute over the management of illicit business and extortion proceeds sparked a full-blown manhunt, marked by "stese," punitive expeditions, and deadly ambushes.

Innocent blood on the streets

Civil society has paid the most dramatic price for this Camorra-inspired clash. Among the bloody incidents that have stained the city streets is the murder of innocent Rosario Coppola, a man with no criminal connection and killed in an ambush following a tragic case of mistaken identity. This crime, along with the killings of other clan members, underscored the ferocious ruthlessness of the killers involved in the conflict.

The grip of the DDA

While the Naples DDA investigations and the evidence provided by recent collaborators of justice tighten the grip on the two factions, the Arzano area remains under close observation. Law enforcement agencies are maintaining a very high level of vigilance to dismantle the new alliances and nip in the bud the escalation of violence threatening the entire northern area.
