Naples, attempted murder in Molosiglio: 19-year-old with no criminal record arrested

Naples – A word too many, an argument between young people threatening to escalate, and a desperate yet generous attempt by a passerby to restore calm. The night of August 30th ended in bloodshed in the Molosiglio Gardens, in the heart of the Chiaia neighborhood, where a 58-year-old man of Ukrainian origin was stabbed during an argument.

Three weeks after the attack, the investigative breakthrough: the Carabinieri of the Operational Unit of the Naples Central Company have placed handcuffs on a 19-year-old with no criminal record, believed to be responsible for the stabbing.

Heroism punished in blood

That night, the victim, seeing a group of young men engaging in an increasingly heated argument in the garden paths, decided not to look the other way. He intervened with his bare hands, trying only to separate the contenders and defuse the situation. A peacemaking gesture that turned into a nightmare: one of the young men involved pulled out a blade and stabbed him, then fled, leaving the 58-year-old bleeding on the ground.

The manhunt and the video evidence

A comprehensive investigative effort coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office closed the loop on the attacker. The Carabinieri searched the area, interviewed several witnesses, and cross-referenced their statements with footage from public and private video surveillance cameras in the area. Frame-by-frame analysis of the images allowed them to reconstruct the exact sequence of the attack and identify the alleged perpetrator, who had previously been unknown to law enforcement.

Based on the evidence gathered, the investigating judge of the Court of Naples, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, issued a precautionary custody order against the 19-year-old. The young man will await the continuation of the proceedings under house arrest, monitored by an electronic bracelet. He faces a serious charge: attempted murder.

Since this is a precautionary measure ordered during the preliminary investigation phase, the suspect is presumed innocent until a final sentence is handed down, and the legal remedies available remain available.
