Raffaele Ambrosca, Mayor of Cancello and Arnone
A new judicial investigation is rocking the Caserta area. Carabinieri officers from the Caserta Provincial Command conducted a search this morning on the mayor of Cancello and Arnone, Raffaele Ambrosca, as part of an investigation coordinated by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Prosecutor's Office.
The mayor is accused, on various counts, of alleged misconduct related to hiring, the cancellation of sanctions, and the awarding of positions that, according to the investigation, were used to consolidate political and electoral consensus.
During the search, a list of names was also found, which investigators believe could potentially lead to future hires. During the search, Ambrosca felt slightly ill, and an emergency vehicle was called to the scene.
The investigation is being conducted by prosecutors Anna Ida Capone and Giacomo Urbano, coordinated by prosecutor Pierpaolo Bruni. The proceedings involve various charges of corruption, extortion, and forgery of public documents.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the investigation centers on an alleged scheme in which job opportunities, administrative measures, and public positions were used to build or strengthen consensus-building relationships.
The charges include four alleged rigged hirings at the company that manages the municipal swimming pool and three others at the cooperative that had been entrusted with a property confiscated from organized crime.
According to the prosecution, the hiring would also have been functional to future electoral prospects, with reference to the upcoming political and administrative competitions.
Another part of the investigation concerns the relationships between the administration, entrepreneurs and local organizations.
The Prosecutor's Office has allegedly focused its attention, in particular, on some sponsorships intended for the Pro Loco "Terre di Ciancio e Lanio", linked, according to the investigative hypothesis, to Ambrosca himself, for the organization of the White Fest – Mozzarella Festival.
Among the businessmen involved are Daniele De Caprio and Antonietta Migliozzi, both of whom are under investigation. According to investigators, the former contributed €3 and the latter €10 to the event.
Investigators hypothesize that these sums could have been linked to subsequent contracts awarded by the municipal administration.
The relationship with De Caprio has come under particular scrutiny. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the entrepreneur was allegedly awarded two municipal contracts worth a total of nearly €175.
As for Migliozzi, the investigation examines the ten-year contract for the management of the municipal stadium, with a monthly fee of €1.700 paid by the local authority, according to the investigation documents.
Investigators will now be tasked with verifying any connection between the sponsorships and the contracts, as well as reconstructing the administrative procedures through which the assignments were made.
Among the charges leveled against the mayor are alleged cancellations of fines. In this case too, according to the prosecutor's office, the elimination of fines was used to gain or maintain consensus.
This is a chapter that will need to be explored in depth through the examination of the administrative documents, the provisions adopted and the relationships between the administrators and the recipients of the alleged favours.
In addition to Ambrosca, the investigation involves nine other people. These include Deputy Mayor Agostino Frattasio, majority city councilor Gabriele Di Vuolo, city officials Ilaria Raimondo and Luisa Gison, heads of General Affairs and Social Services, respectively, Municipal Police Commander Marco Capezzuto, and businessman Daniele De Caprio.
The latter had already appeared in another judicial case handled by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Public Prosecutor's Office, involving the former mayor of Castel Volturno, Pasquale Marrandino, who resigned after the charges were brought against him.
The searches conducted today represent an investigative step aimed at acquiring documentation and any useful information to reconstruct the alleged scheme outlined by the Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecution's case must now be verified through further investigations and cross-examination with the suspects. Any criminal liability must be determined by the competent judicial authorities, and until a final verdict is reached, all suspects are presumed innocent.
