Bagnoli, green light for the revitalization of the Sports Park: a new athletics track is planned.

The Bagnoli-Coroglio Sports Park is part of the city's revitalization plan with a new regulation-level athletics track, spaces for various sports, and a management model more open to local communities. The Naples City Council approved a motion obliging Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, also in his capacity as Special Government Commissioner for Bagnoli-Coroglio, to intervene in the area's redevelopment.

At the heart of the document is the construction of an athletics track approved for all disciplines and categories, capable of hosting international competitions. This project will become particularly significant with the future removal of the Maradona Stadium track as part of the facility's redevelopment project. The need to find a new venue for athletics had already emerged during discussions on the future of the stadium and the Sports Park.

The motion was presented by City Council President Enza Amato and Urban Planning Commission President Massimo Pepe, following discussions with local amateur sports associations.

"With the City Council's approval of the motion on the redevelopment of the Bagnoli-Coroglio Sports Park, we have set a clear political tone: Bagnoli's regeneration must also translate into new public spaces for sport, inclusion, health, and socializing," Amato and Pepe stated.

The proposed projects also include the redevelopment of the ice rink, with the goal of transforming it into a nationally recognized federal center. The request also includes the redevelopment of adequate spaces for basketball and other sports, which currently face insufficient facilities.

Another chapter concerns Bagnoli's relationship with the sea. The motion calls for the restoration of a slipway for launching and hauling dinghies and canoes, including a fully accessible structure for people with disabilities.

"Bagnoli must also rekindle its relationship with the sea through sport," Amato and Pepe emphasized, pointing to the waterslide as one of the projects to be included in the area's revitalization process.

The document also aims for greater transparency in the distribution of spaces. A public census of the Tenth Municipality's facilities, their hours of use, and the associations present is planned, with the aim of capturing the needs of the area and planning the allocation of facilities based on actual demand.

Finally, the motion calls for a structured and permanent relationship between the future management entity and local sports associations, and for free or discounted access to be provided, especially for residents of Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta and for those experiencing economic and social hardship.

The project is part of a broader regeneration program for western Naples, with the Sports Park set to become a hub for the city's competitive and amateur sports.
