Murder in Caivano on New Year's Eve 2002: Man arrested in Maremma
Grosseto — A murder committed on January 1, 2002, in Caivano, in the Naples hinterland. A man killed by a rifle shot. A sentence of 12 years and 9 months of prison remains to be served. Nearly a quarter of a century after that crime, the man was arrested in Maremma, where he had established his residence, by officers from the Flying Squad of the Grosseto Police Headquarters.
The arrest is part of a broader framework: in recent weeks, police have executed three arrest warrants in the Grosseto area. Three individuals, facing very different criminal charges, now face a combined prison sentence of over 22 years.
The most significant case is that of the foreign citizen convicted of the New Year's Eve murder. Resident in the province of Grosseto, he had been issued a warrant for the execution of his sentence. The crime dates back to January 1, 2002, when a murder with a rifle was committed in Caivano.
The man was convicted for that crime and, years later, was still serving the remaining sentence of 12 years and 9 months.
The Grosseto Flying Squad tracked him down and arrested him in recent weeks, executing the prison order.
