The Naples Marathon, a record-breaking edition: over 8.000 registered and participants from 95 countries.

Naples is preparing for a Sunday dedicated to sport and international tourism. The Union Gas e Luce Neapolis Marathon returns on October 18th, now in its sixth year, with over 8.000 participants registered for the weekend's various races: a record figure that marks a 50% increase over last year.

The event was presented today in the council chamber of Palazzo San Giacomo and confirms its position as one of the most attractive Italian events over the supreme distance of 42,195 kilometers.

The international dimension of the race is particularly telling. Over half of the entrants come from abroad, and including Italy, 95 countries from all continents will be represented.

France is the foreign country with the largest number of participants, with 803 total participants across the marathon, the Union Gas e Luce Neapolis Half, and the Eurospin Neapolis Sea Run, the non-competitive 11,1-kilometer race. The United Kingdom follows with 364 runners, followed by Germany with 192, Poland with 165, Spain with 147, Belgium with 113, and the Netherlands with 105. Among non-European nations, the United States stands out, with 103 participants.

The marathon also confirms its position as an important tourism event. Participants from Campania represent approximately 25% of the total: nearly three out of four registered runners will be coming from outside the region, and most will stay in Naples for at least one night. The female presence is also significant, exceeding 32% of the participants, contributing to the event's increasingly popular appeal.

The route from the previous edition has been confirmed, starting and finishing in Piazza del Plebiscito, which will also host the Marathon Village starting Friday, October 16th. The route will run entirely through the center of Naples, passing through some of the city's most evocative and recognizable landmarks. A race that, in addition to the sporting challenge, will offer athletes a journey through the historical heritage, the sea, and the streets of the Campania capital.
