Over four hectares of Mediterranean scrub went up in smoke in Centola, in the Salerno area, where a large fire broke out in the late morning in the hamlet of San Nicola.
The flames spread over a kilometer, spreading along a hillside where several homes are located. Currently, the homes are reportedly not in danger.
Two teams from the Bussento Mountain Community, Lambro and Mingardo, arrived from Torre Orsaia and Futani to combat the fire. The operations were coordinated by the mountain community's firefighting director.
Given the extent of the fire, a regional aircraft was also requested to support the teams on the ground. The use of a national aircraft was also considered.
The Carabinieri Forestali (Forestry Police) from the Pisciotta station also arrived on the scene. They began investigations to reconstruct the origin of the fire and determine its cause.
